Just going to put this out there..If you didn't already know, your mental health is more important than work. Period. I understand, we need money to pay our bills, but when you need a personal day, you need a personal day!
I have a friend, we'll call him Jax. Jax hates his job. He feels as though his coworkers, as well as his boss and other higher ups, don't care for his mental health. They pretend like they appreciate him and all he does, but in reality they don't care. Recently, he confronted one of them by saying "I forgot I worked for a company that values work over mental health, my b" and honestly, *claps* I AM PROUD OF JAX! Because why is that we even have to say this to our employers? And when we do say things like this, we "shouldn't be talking to those who have control over our jobs like that" or we're "being disrespectful."
Jax is one of those really good friends who you can go to for anything. He'll encourage you, motivate you, push you, tell you the truth when you don't want to hear it, he's all for you! We've been friends since 2011 and I am honestly so happy that I met him. But more people need to be like Jax, minus the "my b" LOL. But in all seriousness, companies need to understand that just because weneed a day off doesn't mean we're any less of an employee than if we worked every single shift.
Now, I will admit that when I call out, I do feel bad. For example, last week I took Monday off for personal reasons. I needed time to just be with myself, get myself together and get ready for the next day. At first I felt bad for calling out 45 minutes before my shift started, but then I realized that I REALLY needed he day off and shouldn't be afraid to take time off.
Our Founder and CEO of She Matters put it simply:
"Your body or mind doesn't work based on the days of the week. There is also no clause that says sick/personal days can only be used on Tuesday-Thursaday. No sense in being miserable just to make someone else feel content.
Plus you wouldn't be as productive anyway."
Now isn't that a word!
How many of us agree with this statement? I know I do! And I can say from experience, when your mind just isn't right, you don't necessarily execute things on your to-do list very well. You may get it done, but is it at your best?
Moral of the story, if you need a personal day, JUST DO IT! Don't contemplate whether you deserve one. Don't trap yourself into believing that you're inconveniencing someone else so you can't take care of yourself. At the end of the day, nothing and no one is perfect! Just because you're not that person who never calls out and never takes a day off, doesn't mean you're worthless.
FEELING MYSELF BOX FEATURE:
You might be wondering, "what's this item I've received in my box?" Well, if you did guess, you've might've guessed right. It's a fidget! Not just something the kids are into, but an item that will actually help you during your more stressful times.
When you're feeling anxious, stressed out, annoyed, angry, grab your fidget and make it snap! I've learned through research that sensory things are good for stress relief. This fidget is 2 senses in one: Touch and Hearing. You can feel the sensation of the popping in your hands, while also hearing the popping noise.
